PMI-NEW Members...

First and foremost a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers, speakers and attendees for making our 2012 Professional Development Day an Olympic Gold success! If you were able to join us I hope you found the speakers invigorating and knowledgeable, I did. If you were not able to make it this year, don't worry planning will start soon for our 2013 event. Make sure to keep that in mind when establishing the 2013 budgets.

In May we successfully completed the largest event we hold every year. I think it is great opportunity to share what volunteers mean and do for our organization. PMI was born and is sustained on all the volunteers both at the global and local level.

One of the most visible areas of volunteering is our teams that complete the efforts for our monthly dinner events and the PDD. Venues are selected and booked, menus are negotiated and established, topics are vetted, speakers are contacted, and contracts are negotiated. All of that is completed before the event is even posted on our website and registration begins. Coordination continues the day of the event registering our members, greeting and introducing the speaker, and ensuring everything is running smoothly with the venue.

PMI-NEW Members...

Welcome to August, no I guess it is still April. Our weather in Wisconsin definitely has everyone confused this year. None the less I hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy the unusually warm weather we have been experiencing.

Speaking of confusion have you ever wondered what is the difference between PMI (Global), the PMI Community of Practice (COPs – formerly known as Special Interest Groups (SIGS)) and a PMI Chapter (us). What is each what one? What do they do for me? How do they complement each other? And what do they mean to the Project Management Profession.

In February, PMI-NEW Board Member David Clark presented an overview of Project Management and PMI to the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).  You can see his presentation here.

New features of the website….

"American Idol" premiered, Steve Fosset finished his balloon trip around the world, Tiger Woods won the US Open, and PMI NEW was established as a PMI chapter. Last year's events? Hard to believe, but no, it's been ten strong years since your chapter was chartered!

We plan to celebrate this milestone with all of you throughout 2012.
